Matti Nummelin, Relay Runners, 1975
Perniöntie 7, Salo
Matti Nummelin’s relief Relay Runners (1975) is mounted on the wall of the Sports Hall (Perniöntie 7), built for the Salon Viesti sports club. Relay Runners is Nummelin’s first artwork made by welding. Students from the Salo Vocational College helped the artist weld the piece, and to make a larger Ode for Life relief for a nursing school in Savonlinna. The Bow, a bronze sculpture made by Nummelin, is located outside Uusikaupunki Theatre. Matti Nummelin (1927-2014) studied at the Turku Drawing School in 1948–1950 and he is a member of Salo Artists’ Association.
