In 2014, Salo Art Museum organised an exhibition for the Elonkorjaajat [Harvesters] group of artists. In connection with the exhibition, J-O Mallander’s sculpture was erected in the courtyard of the art museum. The lace-like artwork is assembled of bricks and called Towards the Pure Land. The sculpture was very much liked, and it was not dismantled after the exhibition. In 2018, Salo Art Museum acquired the artwork for its collections. Mallander is a pioneer of conceptual art. He has also worked in the field of music and as an active author, journalist and critic. From the 1980s onwards, he has been working on pieces compiled of bricks.
