Helenius House

Helsingintie 3, Salo

In the 1910s, the baker Helenius built a commercial and residential building with Jugend style features at Helsingintie 3. Three commercial premises were located downstairs of the building representing late Jugend style, and a bakery shop was operating in the middle. The actual bakery was located in a wooden house in the courtyard. After Helenius, the bakery operations were taken over by Hannes Kastu, who in turn sold the bakery to Sulho Kuiro in 1949. Helenius House suffered from fire damage in 2007, after which it has been repaired. A restaurant currently operates on the street level. The beautiful natural stone squares in the outer wall welcome the customers.
